The City of Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre hosted the 2015 annual conference of an extremist group that calls upon Muslims not to vote, advocates the execution of anyone who leaves Islam and supports a global caliphate. The group also says that jihad is a duty and it should be commenced even if the enemy does not attack. The organizer, who calls all Canadian soldiers war criminals, has told Canadian Muslims it is Haram (forbidden) to vote in elections because Muslims can only vote for leaders who support Sharia Law. An audio tape recorded at the meeting reveals the extremist content of the presentation.   The guest speaker invited by the organizer has so far only been indentified as “Malik.”

In terms of radicalization and extremism in Canada, the question has to be raised about why the City of Mississauga would allow an extremist group to use its property to promote extremism and anti-democratic themes. Hizb ut-Tahir advocates violent jihad in its Constitution and tells Canadians not to vote unless it is for Sharia Law supporters.[1] Why did the City not take steps to block such activity, especially given that the group openly advertised its presence?[2] Mississauga is one of the major centres of extremism and radicalization in Canada,[3] so politicians and other civic leaders cannot claim ignorance.

Where are Mayor Bonnie Crombie and Councillor Chris Fonseca, Councillor Sue McFadden and Councillor Jim Tovey on this issue?

The extremist group Hizb ut-Tahrir represents Canada’s fastest growing Islamacist ideology. It advocates an Islamic caliphate which would dominate all other religions and political systems. Its tells its followers they must be loyal to the Ummah and Caliphate and not to their host country.

Founded in 1952 in al Quds,[4] Hizb ut-Tahrir is a global Islamacist party with the intent to resume the Islamic way of life by establishing an Islamic State that rebuilds the systems of Islam and carries its call to the world.

Hizb ut-Tahrir’s Constitution (Article 56) calls for compulsory conscription and says that every Muslim male who is “fifteen years and over, is obliged to undergo military training in readiness for jihad.”

By Jihad, Hizb ut-Tahrir says that “The meaning of Jihad being a duty of sufficiency is that we initiate the fighting of the enemy even if he did not attack us. If the Muslims failed to initiate the fighting at any given time, they would all be sinful.”[5] It should be noted that Hizb ut-Tahrir believes that defensive jihad is a falsehood.[6] (Emphasis added)

Mazin Abdul-Adhim, the perceived leading Imam of Hizb ut-Tahriri in Canada, was one of the organizers of the Mississauga conference. Based in London and the owner of Bismillah Meats,[7] he advocates that it is time to move from the stage of Dawa (outreach, preaching) and move toward the stage of action which calls for the overthrow of corrupt regimes. Democracy, he notes, is not permissible because man is the legislator.

Mazin Abdul-Adhim is not alone is calling for a caliphate and the Islamization of Canada. Dr. Abdullah Hakim Quick and Dr. Reda Bedeir addressed Canadian Muslim high school students at Al-Rashid Mosque in Edmonton. They also advocated that the end goal is the Islamization of Canada and a global caliphate.[8]

Recently, Canadians have been told that they are racist if they believe radicalization is occurring in Canadian mosques. NDP leader Thomas Mulcair suggested that it is “irresponsible to throw the mosques” into discussions about radicalization and that it is “a form of Islamophobia.”[9] While speaking at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) mosque/centre (also in Mississauga), Mr Mulcair again challenged the idea that mosque could be home to radicalization. He added that such comments fuel Islamophobia.[10] It is ironic to note that the ISNA “Development Fund” had its charitable status for funding terrorism[11] before Mr Mulcair spoke at the event. The mosque’s schools have received funding from Saudi Arabia as was noted by the Globe and Mail[12] and major fraud at the ISNA has resulted in charity money being squandered, according to the Toronto Star.[13]

Islamophobia is, of course, the sword and shield of Islamic extremism in the West. Extremists need to use Islamophobia to shield discussion about their abhorrent ideology. See more at:

In general terms, Hizb ut-Tahir has made it clear on its views about democracy and the Western states, including Canada. The leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir America, Dr. Mohammed Malkawi, stated at conference in Jordan: “Let Britain, America, and the entire West go to hell, because the Caliphate is coming, Allah willing.”[14]

If Canada is to fight extremism, terrorism and the radicalization of its youth who are sent overseas to support ISIS and other such group, then governments at all levels need to challenge groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood, Hizb ut-Tahir, Jamaah Islamiyah and the Khomeneists. This includes civic officials such as Mayor Bonnie Crombie and Councillor Chris Fonseca, Councillor Sue McFadden and Councillor Jim Tovey (members of the board of directors of the city owned centre).[15]

The organizer, Mazin Abdul-Adhim, had previously made comments that Canadian soldiers were all war criminals. He openly stated that “No Muslim should honour the memory of those war criminals by wearing a poppy, just as no one would honour a criminal that killed his or her mother and father.”[16]
